I just finished the sweetest maternity session for Emily and Jonathan, and I’m still smiling.
It has rained ALL DAY!! I'm not exaggerating...it was the kind of rain that makes you refresh the weather app every hour and whisper little prayers under your breath. I literally kept praying, “Please just give us a little window without rain.” And thank goodness, about an hour before their session, it stopped.
The ground was muddy... The air was a little muggy... The sun never fully came out... And yet, it was beautiful. Cloudy skies have a way of creating the softest, dreamiest light. Everything felt calm and glowy, like the world slowed down just for them. Would I have loved a little golden sunshine? Sure. But what we got was gentle and romantic and honestly perfect for the moment.
Emily wore the most beautiful brown dress... rich and warm and flattering in every way. Jonathan paired it with a soft cream outfit, and together they looked so effortlessly coordinated. I always send a style guide to my couples, and when they trust it and make it their own... Magic!!
They also brought flowers to celebrate their baby girl. The tones were this gorgeous mix of cream and pinks. It complemented their outfits so well and added the sweetest, most intentional touch. I love when couples incorporate little details that tell their story. It makes the session feel even more personal.
As I drove home, I kept thinking about how worried I was earlier in the day. How I almost let the weather steal my excitement... and yet, it all worked out.
Sessions like this remind me that sometimes the conditions don’t have to be perfect to create something beautiful. Sometimes the rain stops just in time. Sometimes the clouds give you better light than the sun ever could. And sometimes the mud is just part of the story.
