I was standing in the snow, completely freezing, and trying not to cry, because I realized I was shooting a session I had dreamed about since I first picked up a camera.
If you live in Statesville you already know... we rarely ever get any snow. And when I say rarely, I literally mean once in a blue moon. And if we do get snow? It’s either all ice or lasts MAYBE 24 hours. So when the forecast said we were getting almost a foot of snow on Sunday, January 31st of 2026... I almost laughed.
There is no way!!
But when I woke up Sunday morning and saw snow still falling thick, steady and covering everything, I genuinely thought I was still dreaming. I don't think I've ever seen our little town look so magical.
I posted on facebook a day or two before hoping I could get a session in while the snow was falling. I didnt plan on it sticking on the ground for long so I had my fingers crossed I could get a session in before it stopped. My brother called me asking of the spot was still available for him and his girlfriend. Photographing a couple in the falling now has been on my dream list since I started photography.
I might have accidentally made my boyfriend a little late for breakfast because I could not wait to make this happen (😅 sorry babe!!). I grabbed my gear, some hot hands, and headed to a barn I've been eyeing for MONTHS!!! Why are barns in open fields so beautiful? I don't know... but they just are.
My models drove over 30 minutes on slick roads... absolute brave souls... and when we all stepped out of our cars, we instantly questioned our life choices. I was COLD!!!
But it was also very stunning. The snow softened everything. The field was untouched. The barn stood out against all that white like something out of a movie.
We worked fast, maybe 10-15 minutes total, tucking hands into pockets between shots and laughing through chattering teeth. And somehow, in that short window, we created some of my favorite images I've ever taken.
It wasn't just a session. It was a dream fulfilled. It was proof that sometimes you say the crazy thing out loud... and it happens. It was freezing and chaotic and absolutely worth it. Im so thankful i got to experience this... and even more thankful for my sweet brother and his girlfriend who trusted me to capture it.
